Welcome to the 'World People'

Let me share how I got the idea to build this site. This is a story of one of my routine mornings.
Morning
The Nokia phone alarm sings to me, telling me that it's time to wake up. Yawning, I wake and, without much enthusiasm, wander to the bathroom for a rendezvous with my Oral-B toothbrush. Refreshed, I am full of cheerfulness and go straight to my morning's best friend: the fridge with the nice Bosh label and lots of colorful labels inside. My red coffee mug waits for me on the table next to a red can with the same redness as the Nescafe logo. At a relaxed pace, I make my morning coffee and notice the Philips vacuum cleaner staring at me, with an offended look no less, from under the table. For no known reason, it left its corner during the night. Oh yes – I remember. Its usual spot was occupied yesterday by a new Zanussi washing machine and now the cleaner roams from place to place. It looks quite offended by its newfound homeless status.
Whew, breakfast time is over! I quickly get dressed, hastily putting on Ralf shoes and some green-labeled suit. I get in the car and drive down to my office. Lots of cars are passing me by. All different kinds: Toyota, BMW, Honda, Lexus and others. Their styled logos fiercely sparkle in the sunshine, competing for individuality and uniqueness in their designs. I often fail to distinguish one car marque from another without having referred to the logo on its body. Nowadays, one car design resembles the other, as if following the trends of fashion. From a roadside banner, a pack of Ariel washing detergent waves at me amicably with a snow-white towel.
In the office, I sit down in front of a Samsung display. Through the Firefox web browser, the Google page looks at me in a funny manner, goggling about with its double O. In the next tab, Yahoo! twists its eyes slyly at Google. Internet Explorer, in protest, maximizes its windows to full screen mode. And so the work day begins.
Website
After a couple of days of observations, I get deeply into my thoughts. We are surrounded by brands, logos, trademarks, corporations, holdings and companies.

These people do not tell us about their deeds. They don't disclose their mysteries. The clean teeth that result from your use of a brand name toothbrush bestow no obligation upon you to know the people behind the popularity of the toothbrush brand. To appreciate its true value, the commercial advertisements and comments of other owners are enough. In the majority of cases, such an approach is simpler, more efficient, and ultimately faster. But in the case of smaller companies and teams of businessmen where their products are without large scale advertising campaigns and loud brands, this approach is no longer valid. Who knows? Maybe the product manufactured or service rendered by a small company is exactly what you are looking for. Or maybe not! Might the offered quality be different from the one you need?
In such a case, you might want to meet with the people behind those products or services, since it is through personal communication that we get more information. From communication and personal connections, we learn about people's motivations and credibility. From communication, we learn to trust individuals, business teams and their businesses. While meeting people, you might establish joint ventures for mutual benefit, paving the way for fruitful partnerships.
Upon reflection, I came up with the idea of building this website. It is a place where you can tell others about your personality, and share your achievements, developments and deeds. This will help website visitors to learn more about you, your professional activity and your business. There are many social resources on the Internet where people meet and learn about one another. So, what makes World People different? It pursues only two specific goals:
1. To get visitors acquainted with you, your business team, your professional activity and your business, thus attracting their attention to your achievements, products and services.
2. To promote your product on the Internet and improve the rating of your resources in search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing.
And that's it!
You and your business
World People is a set of user profiles. Let's discuss what is worth adding to your profile. These elements, in my belief, will introduce you to website visitors and provide insight into your business:
- Pictures
What is the best way to present you and your team? I think it is best to populate the profile with pictures and images. Pictures are not mandatory, but they are very much welcome. I recommend adding the first picture of you or your team. The first picture is shown as a thumbnail in the profile list. It will be shown to visitors of World People and they can see it without accessing your profile. Please, do not upload anything else as the first image except picture of you or your team. The rest of the pictures can be whatever you'd like. If you don't want to use images and pictures in your profile for any reason, you don't have to do so.
- Brief personal data
Introduce yourself to the public. Write a few words about you or your team. Provide visitors with the details you consider to be the most important and interesting for them.

Write everything you want about your professional activity, projects, developments, ideas, businesses, and so on. This should be the largest part of the profile. Write a lot.
- List of resources you would like to recommend to visitors
Though the profile allows for the adding of direct links to Web resources, this is a special list of resources that you would like to recommend. The profile's resource list can hold up to four links. Each resource can have individual anchor text. Resources are shown in profiles on the very first pages of World People. Insert your resources in the list and give them a descriptive anchor text. This will help promote the rankings of your resources in search engines like Google, Yahoo! and others. Do keep our profile policies in mind.
Direct links from the profile text and the list of resources are your instruments for building the ranking of your projects in the search engines. These opportunities will be discussed in greater detail in the next section.
- Your contact details
Your name or the name of your team, country and city of residence are mandatory fields to be shown in the profile, however you are welcome to add any additional data of your choice. Probably you might want to publish contact details for each individual member of your team.
All profiles listed on the website have structure similar to described above. Instructions on profile building and editing are available in Help section and at control panel page of your account, which is accessible after the registration procedure.
Search engine optimization (SEO)
This section is dedicated to issues of resource optimization for search engine indexing. It provides an analysis of some approaches to optimization and gives explicit explanations why websites are made in a very certain way. The section requires some SEO knowledge and does not have an introduction. Those of you who might be interested in a more basic introduction can find useful information in this Wikipedia article. Those of you who might want to dig deeper into SEO issues can try reading this forum. If you don't want to go into details, please jump to the results at the end of this section.
Let's discuss the methods used for website promotion on the Internet. It is not a secret that website popularity strongly depends on position within the search results produced by Google, Yahoo, Ask, Bing, and other search engines. In turn, the position of your site in the search engine results page depends on the amount and reputation of web pages and sites that link to your site. Each search engine has its own unique algorithm for counting these inbound links and evaluating the position of your web site in search results. Without knowledge of these algorithms, which are commercial secrets of the search engine companies, we can only try to add more external links from other web pages and sites in accordance with our budget. Keep in mind that the quality (and thus the reputation) of linking web resource is of great importance. For instance, Google uses the PageRank parameter for the estimation of quality. Receiving a link from a PR4 site is much more valuable than a similar link from a PR2 site.
Listing your profiles at World People will provide you with some extra links to your web site. All search engines consider new content on a web site as a sign of importance for that web site.

Large amounts of spam on the site can flood and hide interesting information. A site visitor will have a harder time finding the "good" content and may give up on searching. Without doubt, this visitor will not return to such a site. That's why I don't want to publish profiles with content like "Hi! My name is Joe Joe. Wow! Buy something from me..." or "I am watching TV and drinking beer. This is my main business." Such profiles will not be approved for publication. The first is a pure commercial whose main goal is to sell something. The second profile will not be published either, since we all can watch TV and drink beer during our leisure hours. There is not much professional activity here. I suggest that you only put information in your profile that is interesting and useful.
These same arguments may be presented on web sites with articles, press releases or blogs. They are now the most effective ways to promote a web site.
Many visitors might still ask, "What is so special about World People? What makes it different from the others?" Allow me to describe some particular features that I have tried to avoid in World People.
- Websites for distribution of press releases and articles
At press release-based web sites, your press release will soon be thrown into a heap with others. This feature is very noteworthy. Your press release rapidly falls into the depths of the web site, due to its organization based on release dates. As a result, your release quickly disappears beyond the main page, thus losing the SEO benefits of being on the main page.
In contrast, World People gives easy access to your profile within one or two clicks of the main page. Profiles are not bound to any particular date.
The web sites for article distribution also have the same "overlap" problem as the press release distribution web sites. Usually all new articles are published over the older ones in reverse chronological order. Therefore, even if you have an initial advantage in position, you soon could lose it.
World People offers profile publication in direct chronological order.
- Blogs
Blogs are now immensely popular on the Internet. However, blogs, like any other Internet resource, require promotion and the building of inbound links.

In contrast, World People does put links to user profiles. Any profile is click or two away from the main page of the site.
- Internet resource directory
Directories are effective only if the resource was manually verified before being placed in the directory. Even then, just a few visitors could come to your web pages through a directory link. All directories contain a lot of links to different resources. That is not very good from an indexing point of view. Besides, links to resources are often buried deep into the directory's subject tree and, therefore, directories cannot offer very much help with building up your PageRank. Only most popular directories with a high PageRank can be of interest.
- Links
Let me say a few words about links. The classic version of the Google PageRank algorithm has the following feature. The PageRank value of a link from some web page is inversely proportional to the number of links listed on that web page. Therefore, the more links the webpage has, the smaller the PageRank contribution of each link will be. Do not put too many links in your profile. You can read more about PageRank in the Wikipedia article here.
Many web resources do not let users determine the anchor text in their links. Typically, they simply use the link URL. This approach is very wasteful from an SEO standpoint. World People lets you put the anchor text of your choosing in the links. To get more details on anchor text, please refer to the Wikipedia entry here.
World People also allows using links with the rel="nofollow" attribute as well as regular links. Please read about nofollow links here. If you are uncertain what type of link is suitable for your case, please use a regular link without the rel="nofollow" attribute.
